I read in today’s New York Times that Fred Thompson has gone on the attack against Mike Huckabee. According to the article, “Mr. Thompson then lit into Mr. Huckabee, the former Baptist preacher and Arkansas governor who won the Iowa caucus, for wanting to close the prison at Guantanamo Bay, for supporting what he called ‘taxpayer-funded programs for illegals’ and for wanting to sign a law restricting smoking.” He “lit into” him for wanting to sign a law restricting smoking? This Fred Thompson is a tough customer. HOW DARE MIKE HUCKABEE WANT TO SIGN A LAW THAT RESTRICTS SMOKING? I mean what will Huckabee do next? End rape? Help people? Do good things? I’m not saying that I love Mike Huckabee but what kind of an unbelievable dickhead is Fred Thompson?

FRED THOMPSON is the best person to lead this country. He is a true conservative and has been his entire life. All one has to do is check his record to see this.
During my time in the Army as an Intelligence Analyst, I served under both Presidents Carter and Reagan (as my commanders in chief). Without argument, President Reagan was the best commander-in-chief a military person could ever have served under. Fred Thompson possesses the same qualities and vision as President Reagan in that he is strong on national defense and sees a dire need to secure our borders and control immigration.
I can think of no better person to lead this country and fix the problems we have. He is the only candidate from either party who has specific and detailed plans on border security and immigration reform; revitalization of America’s armed forces; saving and protecting Social Security; and tax relief and economic growth. These are detailed on his Web site at http://www.fred08.com . I challenge you to find any other candidate who has laid out specific plans to fix anything.
Fred Thompson has published his first principles, some of which are mentioned above. In addition to those, he strongly believes in individual liberty, personal responsibility, limited government, federalism, traditional American values, the rule of law and is a strong proponent of the Second Amendment — all concepts established during the birth of our country and documented in our Constitution.
Again, try to find any candidate who has laid out their plans to “fix” this country. You will find they all speak in vague and abstract terms on their plans.
For those who have heard Fred Thompson speak, you will usually hear him say that the Fred Thompson you see today is the same Fred Thompson you saw yesterday and is the same Fred Thompson you will see tomorrow. He stands by his principles and values and doesn’t shift his positions based on polls or public opinion; in other words, he doesn’t say what the voters want to hear just to get elected, but remains steadfast on his views and convictions.
During his time in the Senate he focused on three areas: to lower taxes, strengthen national security and expose waste in the federal government. Fred Thompson has foreign policy experience, having served as member of the Senate Foreign Relations and Senate Intelligence committees.
As chairman of the Senate Governmental Affairs Committee, he opened the investigation in 1997 on the Chinese government’s attempt to influence American policies and elections, and this investigation identified connections with the Clinton administration (documented in the committee’s report).
As a member of the Finance Committee, he worked tirelessly to enact three major tax-cut bills. Fred Thompson remains steadfast and even though a person may not agree with all his views and he understands some may disagree with him, you can count on him to be consistent and unwavering.
Don’t be fooled by his laid back approach and what critics call his “laziness.” As a former assistant U.S. attorney, he earned a reputation as a tough prosecutor and he possesses the toughness this country needs in order to tackle today’s and tomorrow’s issues.
I ask that you take a hard look at what this country needs, then take a hard look at all the other candidates’ views, policies, their records and their track record on consistency. Fred Thompson possesses integrity, loyalty, commitment, energy and decisiveness, all traits of an effective leader, and will emerge as the best person to take this country boldly forward.

Fred Sez:
“Medicaid costs have also been increasing dramatically. Providing tax credits to Medicaid-eligible individuals and families to allow them to purchase private insurance will increase the options for low-income individuals, expand personal choice, and should reduce costs as well.”
Medicaid is a state administered welfare program, the primary eligibility requirement is poverty. A tax credit in this instance would be useless, as the intended beneficiary is not on the tax rolls. Unless, Fred is proposing a refundable tax credit, in which case he is actually proposing a new spending program, completely based upon some type of unexplained cost savings.
Fred sez:
“Expand Means-testing of Medicare. Requiring wealthier seniors to pay more through higher premiums, increased co-pays, and higher deductibles is a reasonable and equitable approach that would go a long way to reducing Medicare costs.”
Means testing? Penalizing the wealthy? Is Fred taking a page out of the Dem playbook?
Fred sez:
“Providing Voluntary Personal Retirement “Add-On” Accounts to Supplement Benefits. These accounts would act like a private-sector employer 401 (k) plan and provide government matching funds for every contribution made by the participant.”
Since this is a “supplemental benefit”, the matching contribution represents a massive new spending program, and does nothing but add to the unfunded liability.
True conservative? Not even close. Glug, glug, glug, drink the fred koolaid.
Senator Fred Thompson is the only candidate that gets it. He makes decisions based on principles. Principles don’t change. You have to stand for something and not change who you are based on the polls. That is what John McCain, Mike Huckabee and Rudy Giuliani have done and all of the Democrats do it. Give me a leader that will stand by his principles anyday versus someone that stands for everything.
I know many Republicans and conservatives that will stay home if Rudy Giuliani, Mike Huckabee or John McCain is the candidate. They do not represent our values as conservatives, and never will. Mike Huckabee is a Republican-in-name-only (RINO) Conservatives will simply stay home and the Democrats will pick up additional seats in the House and probably get the 60 seats in the Senate they need to completely destroy our country. Nice picture, huh?
However, I think Fred can bring America back together, if that’s even possible. America needs a rebirth of patriotism and honor. Republicans also need a rebirth. President Reagan was our last rebirth and he can never be duplicated. Fred Thompson will bring his own down-to-earth common sense to this country.. A little of the good old days of faith, federalism and family would do well for this country. If a conservative runs as a conservative, he will win!
Think of it this way: Eight years of another Clinton White House? Now if that is not a sufficient enough reason to pull together as a nation, and fight this socialist liberal takeover of our government, what is?
Folks, we are in for the fight of our lives, just as our young men and women are fighting for our freedoms in Iraq and Afghanistan, we must fight for our nation right here and now! I truly believe Fred Thompson is the one man who can pull this nation back together! Mike Huckabee, John McCain or Rudy Giuliani will just tear us apart.
Go Fred!
The man is a genuine conservative, a leader, a statesman, well spoken, and cool headed.
The candidate for grown ups.
Since you want a national law banning smoking (like Huckabee) then you might be comfortable with a national law banning gay marriage!
How about a national law banning idiot leftist bloggers who use their lipstick inappropriately….
Michael:
“When the Nazis came for the communists,
I remained silent;
I was not a communist.
When they locked up the social democrats,
I remained silent;
I was not a social democrat.
When they came for the trade unionists,
I did not speak out;
I was not a trade unionist.
When they came for the Jews,
I remained silent;
I wasn’t a Jew.
When they came for me,
there was no one left to speak out.”
Sure, you applaud Huckabee going after the smokers! But what will stop him from goring your ox? Think!
Fred Thompson is an old fuck stuck in the 1950’s.
Fuck him and corporate America.
Samir:
What time is it there in Tehran? We don’t need your kind commenting on our elections. Go back to fucking your sheep and we’ll handle electing a leader for our country, okay?
Senator Thompson didn’t make a statement about smoking being allowed. He just said that it wasn’t the role of the federal government to pass such laws. He would say pass the bans at the state level if that is what you want to do.
American Man:
Fred Thompson is stuck in the 1950’s and is a corporate lobbyist.
Thankfully he has no chance and is a lazy fuck.
“Fuck him and corporate America.”
Corporate America built a great deal of this modern world. I’d call you an ungrateful little man with misplaced anger.
Fuck off, corporate America fucks over the American worker by outsourcing our jobs and paying off our leaders to keep our wages low.
Fuck Fred Thompson, I want a president who speaks for me, the worker.
Wow, how much is Mr.Thompson paying his pro-Fred blog responders? Sounds like a sweet gig. I think Fred Thompson is a dick too, but I hate Mike Huckabee more. He just brings the crazy to a whole new level, plus he actually won a caucus! Scary.
Imagine a whole lot of “blah blah blah” I cut and pasted right here…but about my favorite candidate, new Manhattan DA Sam Waterston!
That’s a lot rhetoric for a guy that’s not far ahead of “Undecided” and Monty Brewster. Too bad Fred Thompson isn’t running for President of Google Search. He’d have some great support. Nice job, Crazy Internerds for Fred Thompson!
Haha, that’s right. Thank you, Satan’s spawn, for hating Fred Thompson. I’m sure anyone who regularly reads you (if they exist) were going to vote for Fred anyway.
Sorry *was* going to read you.
And my hat is off to samir, who is so intelligent that he can drop the f-bomb twice in five words while ignore the fact that TAX-CUTS and DECREASED SPENDING are probably the best way to help the American worker.
Democrats usually are only for helping the American perpetual welfare recipient.
Fuck tax cuts, the worker sees $300 a year, wow he can buy half a PlayStation 3.
Go fuck yourself dick.
Pardon me if I didn’t read all the posts here and what I am about to say was already covered.
Senator Thompson’s point about Governor Huckbee’s wanting to ban smoking lies in the concept of Federalism. If you look the definition up, you would understand why the further encroachment of the Federal government into individuals lives isn’t necessary in most cases. If you actually listened to all of the Senator’s comments before blowing your stack, you would have heard him say something like “So much for Federalism, so much for states rights”
The Senator sees further restrictions against smoking as a violation of Federalism principles. Maybe you don’t agree but most people who think government should stay the hell out of our lives, will agree…
WOw, politics really makes this place jump, doesn’t it?
STOP THE PRESS!
Fred “Buffoon” Thompson has dropped out because of Mr Michael Showalter’s very hurtful and mean words. Mr Showalter is probably the most up and coming young political commentator of our times. His political art is stirring opinions worldwide.
(Loved your SF sketch fest show, my feet were cold too; come back next year and bring your own heater)
Not that this is an astute political comment, but for a while I thought Fred Thompson had played Vigo the Carpathian. Whilst googling, I found that I was not the only one:
